Independent bottler Samaroli introduces another edition of its single cask Demerara rum distilled in 1990. The name Demerara comes from the sugar cane used in rum-making that is grown on the banks of the Demerara river, which is then distilled in a double wooden pot still that dates back to the 17th century.
Samaroli doesn't age its rum in Guyana, however - it transports the Demerara Rum to Scotland for maturation. This is done to take advantage of the cooler climate, which is said to prolong the ageing process, and create cleaner, more elegant rums. In 2017 Samaroli obviously decided that this process had done it all it could, because it bottled the rum at 45% ABV, and released 318 bottles of it in total.
